Surface texture training

With over 30 years of experience and the role as SIS Training Partner© and Standard Developer, we give you insights directly linked to ISO 1302, ISO 4287, ISO 21920 and ISO 25178. Together with the Swedish Institute for Standards, we deliver training that ensures that you work according to today's requirements.

Introduction – Surface texture

Surface texture and surface smoothness are a central part of modern design and production, but also an area where requirements and symbols are easily misinterpreted. This introduction gives you a clear and practically oriented overview of how surface texture should be specified, understood and controlled according to ISO GPS.

We will review how surface quality is specified on drawings using the internationally standardized symbol language within ISO GPS, as well as how geometric deviations and surface texture interact to ensure the function of a product. The course provides an overview of the ISO GPS workflow, relevant standards and common pitfalls – and shows how the correct specification of surface texture can improve quality, reduce uncertainty and create a more controlled and efficient production.

Basic course in surface texture

Surface texture is a crucial part of a product's function and quality, but also an area where requirements are often specified unclearly or according to older standards. This basic course gives you a clear and practically oriented overview of how surface texture should be required, measured and controlled according to ISO GPS.

We will review how the tools in ISO GPS are used to specify and verify surface texture on drawings, with a focus on both profile and area measurement techniques (3D) as well as the differences between new and older profile standards. The course shows how correctly specified surface texture reduces the risk of quality defects, optimizes production and contributes to more sustainable manufacturing.

Workshop

Measuring and specifying surface texture can sometimes create uncertainty – especially when the issues are urgent and decisions need to be made quickly. Surface Urgency is a focused workshop where we help you clarify concrete questions about surface texture, interpretation of drawing requirements and selection of the right measurement technique according to ISO GPS.

During a digital meeting via Teams, we will go through your specific challenges, such as how to measure a surface to give the right values, why different measurements give different results or how a requirement should be interpreted and verified according to applicable standards. The goal is to create clarity, reduce uncertainty and ensure that your decisions about surface texture are technically correct and functionally justified.

Advanced course

Surface texture is crucial for a product's function and quality, but translating standards into practical and functional requirements requires in-depth knowledge. This advanced course provides a clear and practically oriented understanding of how surface texture is analyzed, specified and verified according to ISO GPS - with a focus on your own surfaces and issues.

We will cover the measurement and analysis of surface topography, choosing the right measurement technique – profile or area, tactile or optical – and how parameters, filtering and symbols are used to create complete surface texture specifications. The course shows how correct requirements setting and verification ensure function, reduce quality defects and create a more controlled manufacturing process.

Form & Location with Ariadne Engineering

Form and position tolerances are a central part of modern drawing, but also an area where misunderstandings easily arise. This basic course gives you a clear and practically oriented introduction to how geometric tolerances should be specified, understood and controlled according to ISO GPS. We review tolerance symbols, datums, reference systems and common pitfalls – and show how the right tolerance setting can improve quality, reduce costs and create more efficient production.

The course is developed and delivered in collaboration with Ariadne Engineering, recognized experts in form and position tolerances. Together, we offer training that provides a solid foundation for both design, production and metrology.

"I cannot praise you enough for the extensive knowledge you possess in the field, which ensured that we did not have a single wasted minute."
