Västerås March 3 – Training in surface structure according to ISO GPS at ARIADNE Engineering

Surface quality requirements play a crucial role in how a component functions in practice. Despite this, there is often uncertainty about how surface structure should be specified, measured and verified according to today's standards. To meet this need, Toponova AB is arranging an open full-day training course in surface structure and ISO GPS at ARIADNE Engineering in Västerås on March 3, 2026.

The training provides a modern and practically based overview of how surface structure is managed within the framework of the ISO GPS system and how this affects design, production and quality work in industry.

Purpose and background

In recent years, surface texture standards have undergone extensive changes. The new regulations place higher demands on clarity, traceability and correct interpretation of both requirements and measurement results.

The course is based on:

  • ISO 21920 – surface texture based on profile (2D)
  • ISO 25178 – surface texture based on area/3D

At the same time, it highlights how these standards relate to older working methods and documentation according to, for example, ISO 1302, ISO 4287 and ISO 4288. The goal is for participants to understand what actually applies today – and how the transition to new standards should be handled in practice.

During the day, the following will be covered, among other things:

  • The relationship between surface structure and functional requirements
  • How surface requirements are expressed on drawings according to ISO GPS
  • The difference between profile and area-based measurement
  • How measurement data should be interpreted and used in verification
  • Common pitfalls in setting requirements and controls

Who is the course for?

The training is aimed at technically active roles within the industry, for example:

  • Constructors
  • Preparer
  • Measurement technician
  • Kvalitets- och produktionstekniker

The course is particularly valuable for organizations where multiple functions need to share a common understanding of space requirements and ISO GPS.

Course leader

The course is led by Stefan Rosén, founder of Toponova AB. He has worked with surface structure and measurement technology since the mid-1990s and has completed over 2,600 assignments in analysis, verification and training.

Stefan is active in standardization work in SIS and is a SIS Training Partner®, which means that the training is based on official ISO standards and their correct application.

Why participate?

Incorrectly stated or interpreted surface requirements often lead to unnecessary costs, discussions and quality problems. With the right understanding of ISO GPS and surface structure, better conditions are created for stable production, fewer deviations and clearer technical communication.

The training in Västerås gives you the tools to work more consistently and safely with surface structure - from requirements to verification.
