Västerås May 26 – Training in surface texture according to ISO GPS at ARIADNE Engineering

Surface texture is a crucial parameter for the function and lifespan of a component. Nevertheless, uncertainty often arises about how requirements should be specified, interpreted and verified according to today's ISO standards. To strengthen competence in the area, Toponova AB is arranging an open full-day training in surface texture and ISO GPS at ARIADNE Engineering i Västerås den 26 maj 2026.

The training provides an updated and practically oriented review of how surface texture is defined and controlled according to the modern ISO GPS system - and what significance this has for design, production and quality assurance.

Purpose and background

The standards for surface texture have been developed and clarified in recent years. The new regulations place increased demands on clarity, correct use of symbols and traceable handling of measurement results.

The course focuses specifically on:

  • ISO 21920 – surface texture based on profile (2D)
  • ISO 25178 – surface texture based on area (3D)

At the same time, how these standards relate to previous practices according to, for example, ISO 1302, ISO 4287 and ISO 4288 is discussed. Participants get a clear picture of what applies today and how the transition to the new standards should be implemented in the business.

During the day, the following will be covered, among other things:

  • How surface texture affects functional properties and performance
  • How to correctly specify surface requirements in drawings according to ISO GPS
  • Differences between profile-based and area-based measurement
  • Interpretation and evaluation of measurement data
  • Typiska misstag vid kravställning och verifiering

Who is the course for?

The training is aimed at technically active roles within the industry, for example:

  • Constructors
  • Preparer
  • Measurement technician
  • Kvalitets- och produktionstekniker

The course is particularly valuable for organizations where multiple functions need to share a common understanding of space requirements and ISO GPS.

Course leader

The course is led by Stefan Rosén, founder of Toponova AB. Since the mid-1990s, he has worked with surface texture and industrial measurement technology and has completed over 2,600 assignments in analysis, verification and skills development.

Stefan is involved in standardization work within SIS and is a SIS Training Partner®, which means that the training is based on official ISO standards and their correct practical application.

Why participate?

Unclear or misinterpreted surface requirements often lead to unnecessary discussions, rework and quality deviations. By working consistently according to ISO GPS, better conditions are created for stable processes, reduced costs and clearer technical communication between design and production.

The training in Västerås on May 26 will give you the tools required to work structured and safely with surface texture - from requirements to verification.
