Värnamo February 4 – Basic course in surface structure and ISO GPS at Ravema

Small variations in surface structure can have major consequences for function, lifespan and production outcomes. To give the industry better tools to handle these issues, Toponova AB, together with Ravema, is arranging a basic course in surface structure and ISO GPS on February 4 in Värnamo.

The training is aimed at technical people working in manufacturing who want to gain a clear and practical understanding of how surface requirements should be specified, measured and verified according to today's standards.

Purpose and background

Surface texture affects everything from friction and tightness to wear and assembly properties. Despite this, uncertainty often arises about how surface requirements should be interpreted and communicated between design, production and quality.

The course focuses on how the ISO GPS system is used to create unambiguous and functional specifications, with a particular focus on ISO 21920, the modern standard for profile-based surface structure. This gives participants a better understanding of the relationship between drawing requirements, measurement results and function in the final application.

During the day, the following will be covered, among other things:

  • What surface structure is and how it affects function and performance
  • How surface requirements are specified on drawings according to ISO GPS
  • The basics of ISO 21920 and its application in industry
  • Differences from older working methods and standards
  • How measurement results should be interpreted and used in verification

Who is the course for?

The training is aimed at designers, processors, manufacturing, quality and measurement technicians who are responsible for requirements setting, production or verification of component surfaces. The content is designed to provide a common understanding between design and quality functions, which reduces the risk of interpretation disputes and facilitates internal communication.

Course leader

The training is led by Stefan Rosén, Toponova AB. With over three decades of work in surface structure, measurement technology and ISO GPS, he has completed more than 2,600 assignments in analysis, verification and training.

Stefan is active in standardization work within SIS and is a SIS Training Partner®, which ensures that the course content is based on correct and current standard application.

Why participate?

A correct understanding of surface structure and ISO GPS is crucial to avoid unnecessary quality issues, rework and discussions around tolerances. By participating in the course, you will gain practical tools to work more consistently and functionally with surface quality – from requirements to verification.
